Evolution for Human Dignity Foundation (DIGNITY) is an indigenous Ugandan civil society organisation which was founded in 2010 by volunteer members drawn from the 15 nations that founded Uganda in 1962.
For the record those nations are: Acholi, Ankore, Buganda, Bugisu, Bukedi, Busoga, Bunyoro, Karamoja, Kigezi, Lango, Madi, Teso, Toro, Sebei and West Nile. Those were fully fledged nations before the arrival of the colonialist on our land and recognised them by consulting them with the advent of creating an independent Uganda in 1962.
DIGNITY insists that those nations must be consulted on any prospective changes to the political structures of the country since they created the ‘’Uganda’’ that has, seemingly, been hijacked by imposter politicians who were entrusted with leading the new State but instead have taken ownership of the country since 1966 to date.
We believe treating of those nations and/or tribes as a negative towards Uganda nation building is both a misunderstanding and a misconception and an arrogance bordering on imperialism.
There has to be recognition that the founder nations and/or tribes are the first step in the evolution of statehood. Indeed some of the so-called tribes of Uganda had reached nationhood by the time the colonialist arrived on our shores.
Belonging to a smaller group does not diminish ones loyalty to a bigger group, in fact it enhances it. Therefore, cheap and derogatory arguments that reference to the 15 founder nations promotes tribalism has to be seen as an empty an argument as they come. Primarily, it should be delegates from those 15 founder nations that should form the majority in any future national convention that will mandate the formation of an interim transitional government and agree the terms of reference for a constituent assembly.
Mission:
To facilitate conversations on Democratic Dispensation through Civic Education
People need reassurance that we can disagree with one another without fear of imprisonment
Objective:
To provide Civic Education for all as a tool to realise Democratic Dispensation to ensure free and fair Democratic peaceful transfer of power for the first in the Uganda’s history.
History about Uganda’s problems:
Before the creation of the State called ‘’Uganda’’, between 1961 and 1962, the 15 founder nations sent delegates to an Independence Conference at Lancaster House where they formally agreed to form a new country called ‘’UGANDA’’ on terms and conditions which were duly stipulated in the 1962 Independence Constitution. It follows that any changes to Uganda demands consultation and consent of the 15 founder nations.
The whole world should know that Uganda is a creature of statute and it has owners who are the 15 founder nations as their respective emblems as installed on the main gate of Uganda’s Parliament.
The dismantling of people-based constitutional rule commenced with usurping of people’s power in 1966 upon abrogation of the 1962 people’s constitution (the Independence Constitution). This has resulted into personal rule which has overseen the destruction and suffocation of the founder nations and the Uganda State institutions, which in turn has led to the illegitimate and vulgar accumulation of massive wealth and power by the very few who control the means of violence.
This in turn has eroded civility and the motivation to hand over power. It follows the opportunity to accommodate free and fair democratic elections have diminished and a peaceful transfer of power is most unlikely.
For emphasis, it needs repeating that all the Ugandan presidents since 1966 to date, have used force and violence to attain power followed by enacting favourable regime constitutions coupled with intimidation, manipulation, intrigue, scheming and hoodwinking of citizens to protect and consolidate their unlawful massive obscene wealth and illegitimate hold on power and the looting of State funds.
Services we offer:
a) Provision and popularising of Civic Education amongst all citizens.
b) To empower Ugandan Citizens with knowledge to fully exercise and chase their rights in a Democratic Dispensation.
c) To facilitate the need of a Grand Sovereign National Convention which shall debate the rules to guide the holding of a Constituent Assembly that shall make a People’s Constitution as desired by the 15 indigenous Founder Nations and other key stakeholders. It is proposed that delegates to the Constituent Assembly shall be barred from running for political office for 10 years
Motto:
Owner State, Enough is enough (Twagala bwananyini, Ekimala kimala)
